I confess I have ordered from eight different delivery apps while parked in the Hardee’s lot, and the options here are dangerously good. Council Bluffs may look like a drive-through town, but the spread runs from a bakery that nails a ham and cheese croissant worthy of quiet reflection to a bar serving massive nachos and a Saturday steak that would embarrass a proper steakhouse.

You will find generous salmon portions, a chicken pad Thai that humbles your mouth, and even a place called Pizza King that insists on serving you a perfect steak. All of it arrives at your door, which is a miracle I still refuse to question.

Read on, and prepare your stretchy pants.

Amazing ham and cheese croissant
Best croissant ever tasted
Perfect farmers market pickup

I ordered the ham and cheese croissant from Delicias del Pan Bakery LLC, and I must confess a profound moment of quiet joy. It was flaky, buttery, and the ham was generous. The best I have ever tasted, frankly. The pickup at the farmers market was seamless. I appreciate a bakery that respects the integrity of a simple pastry. My only complaint is that I did not order two. Or four. This is a dangerous little establishment for anyone with a pulse and a working palate.

Viva Fit Kitchen

Viva Fit Kitchen
Highlights
Fresh, affordable, healthy meal prep
Convenient ordering, excellent customer service
Standout dishes: pasta, quesadillas, salmon

Viva Fit Kitchen has made me a reluctant convert to meal prep. The food is fresh and affordable, which already sets it above many of my usual greasy options. Ordering was simple, and the customer service was genuinely helpful. The pasta had a proper bite, the quesadillas were not sad, and the salmon was cooked with restraint. I felt healthy eating it, which is an odd sensation for me. It was almost unsettling. I will order again, probably while grumbling, because the quality is undeniable.

Highlights
Smoked meats, perfectly tender
White sauce, absolutely incredible
Gluten-free meats done right
Staff kind, quick, helpful
Sides flavorful, fries crispy

BBQ Brothers delivered smoked meats that were tender in a way that suggests they have made peace with their smoker. The white sauce is absolutely incredible; I would drink it if social norms permitted. Gluten-free meats done right is a rarity, and they handled it with grace. The staff were kind and quick, a combination I rarely encounter. Sides were flavorful, and the fries were properly crispy. I have no complaints about the food. My only issue is that I now measure all other barbecue against this, and that is a heavy burden.

Convenient parking access

Home Team Cookout handled my large, loud, and indecisive party with surprising speed and kindness. The portions were generous to the point of absurdity. I am fairly certain I received a whole animal in my container. The daily specials offer excellent value, which matters when feeding a crowd of hungry skeptics. Parking was convenient, a small miracle in this town. Service was fast and friendly. I left feeling overstuffed and slightly concerned about my arteries. That is the mark of a successful cookout, I suppose.

Memorable first impression guaranteed

Pizza King. The name suggests royalty, and the steak I received was indeed cooked to perfection. I was not expecting a steak from a place called Pizza King, but there it was, glorious and properly seared. The portions are generous, and the cheesecake is a colossal slab of dairy ambition. The service exceeded all expectations, attentive without being intrusive. The prices are fair for the quality of dinner. My first impression was memorable. I have been spoiled, and I shall return soon to verify it was not a fluke.

Pizza worth repeat visits

Salads defy Caesar standards
Food quality saves the day

Big Kel's Pizza & Wings is a study in contradictions. The pizza is genuinely worth repeat visits, with a solid crust and quality toppings. However, the staff seemed distractingly unprofessional, almost as if they were auditioning for a different job entirely. The salads defy Caesar standards, and not in a good way. I found myself confused. But the food quality saves the day. I will endure the chaos for another slice. Just know that your patience will be tested, and your taste buds will be rewarded.

Sauce and cheese fresh
Best pizza in town

Pizza Counter is fast, even on weekends, which is a miracle I no longer question. The pies are big, crispy, and cheesy, with a sauce and cheese that taste fresh, not like they were assembled last Tuesday. This is the best pizza in town. I said it. I will not retract it. Delivery was prompt and the pizza arrived hot, which is a basic requirement that many places somehow fail. Here, they succeed. My only regret is not discovering this place sooner. I have wasted years on lesser pies.

Best mac and cheese
Fantastic fries, good service
Blowaway Power Eye Mac
Great steak bites and onion pedals

The Porch served me the best mac and cheese I have ever encountered. The Power Eye Mac blew me away, which is a dramatic statement for a normally stoic man. The fries were fantastic, and the service was good. The steak bites were great, and the onion petals were a delight, though I am still unsure what a petal is in this context. Everything arrived hot and correct. I have no complaints. My only concern is that I may now be unable to enjoy mac and cheese elsewhere. That is a heavy price.

China Wok might be the best restaurant in Council Bluffs, and I am not being hyperbolic. The vegetables were fresh, and the meats were the tenderest I have had in any delivery context. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. The menu is extensive, and I have never been disappointed. The service is friendly, making it an easy choice for a lazy night. I have ordered from here multiple times now. Each time, I am surprised by the consistency. This is a reliable comfort in an unreliable world.

The Salty Dog Bar & Grill delivered massive nachos and phenomenal wings. Everything was crispy, consistent, and flavorful. The food arrived fast, which was impressive given the packed atmosphere implied by the background noise. The pricing is decent, and the portions are generous. The Saturday steak was on point, perfectly cooked and seasoned. I did not expect steak from a bar called The Salty Dog, but here we are. I am not complaining. This is a solid choice for a man who wants a lot of food and little fuss.

Napolis Italian Restaurant sent fresh bread rolls that were praised by every person in my household, which is a rare occurrence. The homemade cannolis stood out as the highlight of the meal, a sweet ending that justified the wait. The spinach dip was delicious, creamy, and not overly salty. This is a great choice for a birthday dinner, as the portions feel celebratory. This is above chain Italian quality, clearly. I felt like I was eating at a real restaurant, not a corporate facsimile. I will be back.

Mercy Thai Restaurant provided quick and friendly lunch service, which I appreciated because I was hungry and grumpy. The portions are generous, and the prices are fair. The flavors are delicious and authentic, a rare find in this part of the country. The chicken pad Thai shines, with properly cooked noodles and a balanced sauce. The spice level packs a punch. I ordered medium, and my mouth is still recovering. That is not a complaint. That is a warning. Do not underestimate this place. It will humble you.
